How to Change Your Release Information
After your music has been distributed, you may need to update certain information about your release. This guide explains what can be changed, how to request changes, and the timeframes involved.
What Can Be Changed After Distribution
Once your music is live on streaming platforms, there are limitations to what can be modified. Here's what you can and cannot change:
Changes That Can Be Made:
- Release title (in some cases)
- Track titles (in some cases)
- Genre classification
- Release description
- Adding or removing platforms (for future distribution)
- Songwriter/producer credits
Changes That Cannot Be Made:
- Audio files (you cannot replace the actual music)
- Cover artwork (most platforms don't allow artwork changes after release)
- Primary artist name (this would require a takedown and re-upload)
- ISRC codes (these are permanent identifiers)
- UPC/EAN codes (these are permanent identifiers)
How to Request Changes
To update information for an existing release, follow these steps:
- Log in to your Dismusic account and navigate to the Dashboard
- Go to the "Releases" section
- Find the release you want to modify and click on it to view details
- Click the "Request Changes" button
- Select the type of change you want to make from the dropdown menu
- Enter the new information in the provided fields
- Provide a brief explanation for the change (this helps our team process your request)
- Click "Submit Request"
Processing Timeframes
After submitting your change request:
- Our team will review your request within 1-2 business days
- If approved, changes will be submitted to streaming platforms
- Platforms typically take 3-7 business days to implement changes
- Some platforms may take longer (up to 30 days) for certain types of changes
You'll receive email notifications when your request is approved and when the changes have been implemented across platforms.
Special Cases
Title Changes
Changing a release or track title is possible but complex. Most platforms treat this as a significant change that requires special handling. In some cases, it may be faster to remove the release and re-upload it with the correct information.
Adding or Removing Platforms
You can add new platforms to your distribution at any time. To remove your music from specific platforms:
- Go to your release details
- Click "Manage Distribution"
- Uncheck the platforms you want to remove
- Click "Update Distribution"
Takedown requests typically take 5-10 business days to process, depending on the platform.
Complete Takedowns
If you need to completely remove your release from all platforms:
- Go to your release details
- Click the "Takedown" button
- Confirm your decision
Complete takedowns typically take 5-10 business days to process across all platforms.
Best Practices
To avoid needing to make changes after distribution:
- Double-check all information before submitting your release
- Use the preview function to review how your release will appear
- Consider having someone else review your submission for errors
- Be especially careful with titles, artist names, and track order
Fees for Changes
Dismusic does not charge additional fees for most metadata changes. However, please note:
- Excessive or frequent change requests may be subject to a processing fee
- Complete takedowns and re-uploads count as new releases under your subscription plan
- Some platforms may have their own policies regarding changes that are beyond our control
When to Consider a Takedown and Re-upload
In some cases, it may be more efficient to completely remove a release and upload it again:
- When you need to change the audio files
- When you need to replace the cover artwork
- When you need to change the primary artist name
- When multiple significant changes are needed
Keep in mind that this process will reset your streaming counts and remove the release from user playlists until the new version is live.
